Quick Answer: Two days is the minimum for Gurez. Leave Srinagar early on day one, cross the Razdan Pass and reach Dawar by afternoon for Habba Khatoon peak and the Kishanganga river, stay one night, then spend the morning of day two in the valley before the long drive back. The road is open mainly from May to October. A private cab with a driver who knows the pass is the sensible way to do it.

| Drive time | Roughly 5 to 7 hours each way depending on stops and road condition |

| Taxi cost | From Rs 5,000 for two days in a Swift Dzire, before extras |
Day 1: Srinagar to Gurez over the Razdan Pass
Leave Srinagar by 6 or 7 in the morning. The road runs north to Bandipora and then climbs steadily to the Razdan Pass, which sits above 3,000 metres. This is a genuine mountain road with bends and changing weather, so your driver will pace the day and stop for tea and photographs. After the pass the road drops into the green Gurez valley along the Kishanganga river. Aim to reach Dawar in the afternoon, check in, and walk to a viewpoint for Habba Khatoon peak in the late light. Our Gurez Valley guide explains the peak and the valley in more detail.
Day 2: Kishanganga river, villages and the drive back
Use the morning for a slow walk by the Kishanganga river and through the wooden villages around Dawar. If you have a local guide and more time, the valley continues toward Tulail, which is better as a longer trek than a rushed add on. Plan to leave Gurez around midday so you cross the Razdan Pass and reach Srinagar before dark.

- Carry enough cash, since card and ATM facilities are limited.

Is two days enough for Gurez?
Two days works if you want the highlights and are happy with a long drive on each side. Three days is more relaxed and leaves time for Tulail or a slower day by the river. Winter closes the pass, so plan for the May to October season.
