Dal Lake is the postcard view: houseboats lined along the water, shikaras going past, the Zabarwan hills behind and the Boulevard, Nishat and Shalimar gardens a short ride away. It is the right choice for a first visit and for anyone who wants to be in the middle of things. Nigeen Lake is connected to Dal but sits further north near Hazratbal. It is quieter, with fewer passing boats and more birdsong, and usually a little cheaper. Couples and travellers who want rest over convenience often like it more. Either way, the driving times to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg are much the same.
Not included: lunch, a longer sightseeing shikara ride on the lake (we can add one, see shikara ride on Dal Lake), and personal expenses.

A Dal Lake houseboat costs about Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000 per room per night with breakfast and dinner. Deluxe boats sit at the lower end, premium boats with larger suites at the upper end, and prices rise from April to June and over the December to February holidays.
Dal Lake is central, lively and close to the Boulevard, the Mughal gardens and the markets. Nigeen Lake, further north near Hazratbal, is quieter and greener and usually costs a little less. First-time visitors who want the classic view tend to pick Dal; couples who want calm often prefer Nigeen.
Yes. Every houseboat we book includes breakfast and dinner cooked on board by the host family, and we confirm the meal plan in writing before you pay. Lunch is usually taken out while you are sightseeing.
No. Houseboats are owned and run by local Kashmiri families. We arrange stays only on boats our team has checked, and we tell you the exact houseboat by name, with photos, before you pay anything.
Yes. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we quote the houseboat on its own, with the shikara transfer included. We can also add Srinagar airport pickup in one of our own cabs.
Good houseboats have room heating, hot water and heavy bedding, and Dal Lake in snow is beautiful. A houseboat is still colder than a modern hotel, so if warmth matters most to you, we suggest one houseboat night and the rest in a heated hotel.
One or two nights is the right amount for most travellers. That gives you an evening and a morning on the water, a shikara ride and a slow breakfast on the deck, before moving on to Gulmarg, Pahalgam or Sonmarg.
Dal Lake is about 14 km from Srinagar airport, a 30 to 45 minute drive depending on traffic. Our driver takes you to the ghat, and the houseboat shikara carries you and your luggage across to the boat.
Yes, with one thing to plan for: you step down from the ghat into a shikara and then up onto the houseboat deck. Tell us about anyone with limited mobility and we choose a boat with an easy landing and a ground-level room.
