The Villagio Pahalgam: An Honest Hotel Review
Quick Answer: The Villagio is a 3-star, Rs 6,500 a night hotel in Pahalgam that we own and run ourselves. Rooms are simple and clean rather than luxurious, the setting near the Lidder river is the real draw, and it suits couples and families who want a comfortable base close to Betaab Valley and Aru rather than a resort experience.
We are not writing this as a listing. We run this hotel, so take the price and the criticism below at face value, both are ours to answer for.

Where exactly is The Villagio?
Pahalgam sits on the Lidder river at a little over 2,100 metres, about 90 minutes by road from Srinagar. The Villagio is inside the town itself, close enough to walk to the main market and the pony stand for Betaab Valley and Aru, so you are not stuck arranging a cab for every short trip once you have arrived.
Is The Villagio worth booking? A straight answer
If you are comparing it to a five-star Srinagar houseboat, no, that is a different category of stay. If you are comparing it to the mid-range Pahalgam hotels that fill up every June and October, it holds its own: the rooms are heated properly for the shoulder seasons, the staff are local and know the valley, and at Rs 6,500 a night it undercuts several nearby 3-star properties that charge more for a similar room with a worse river view.
The Villagio vs. a Dal Lake houseboat: which one for your Kashmir trip
A fair question, since both come up in the same itinerary conversation.
- Choose The Villagio if your priority is Pahalgam’s outdoor circuit, Betaab Valley, Aru, Chandanwari, and you want a hotel bed and a hot shower after a day outside.
- Choose a Dal Lake houseboat if the Srinagar experience itself, the shikara ride at sunrise, the floating market, is the point of your trip rather than a base for day trips.
Most of our guests book both: two or three nights on the water in Srinagar, then a move to Pahalgam and The Villagio for the mountain half of the trip.
What a stay actually looks like
Check-in is straightforward, most guests arrive by cab straight from Srinagar airport with a pickup we arrange as part of the package. Rooms come with a mountain or river-facing view depending on which floor you are on; ask for river-facing at booking if that matters to you, it is a preference we can usually accommodate but not guarantee on a same-day request. Breakfast and dinner are Kashmiri and North Indian home-style cooking, not a buffet spread, which guests either love or find limited depending on what they came expecting.
How to book a stay at The Villagio
- WhatsApp +91 94192 44962 with your dates and how many rooms you need.
- We confirm room-type availability and river or mountain view where possible.
- You pay a partial advance to lock the booking; the balance is settled at check-in.
- We send you the driver’s number a day before your Srinagar arrival for pickup.
The same booking conversation can also add a full Kashmir tour package around your Pahalgam stay, a cab for the rest of your trip through our taxi service, or extend your circuit to Gulmarg and Sonmarg.
Frequently asked questions
Is The Villagio a luxury hotel?
No. It is a clean, comfortable 3-star hotel. If you want a five-star stay, look at Srinagar’s larger properties instead; The Villagio’s value is its location and price in Pahalgam, not a luxury build.
How far is The Villagio from Betaab Valley?
Betaab Valley is a short drive from the hotel, generally under 20 minutes, and is one of the day trips most guests do directly from The Villagio without needing to change base.
Does The Villagio have river-facing rooms?
Some rooms face the Lidder river and some face the mountain side. Mention your preference when you book and we will try to match it, though it depends on what is free for your dates.
Is Pahalgam cold enough in winter to need heating?
Yes, Pahalgam gets genuinely cold from December through February and can see snowfall. The Villagio’s rooms are heated for winter stays, which is worth confirming directly if you are travelling in that window.
Can Happy Jacks arrange my whole trip around a stay at The Villagio?
Yes. Tell us your dates on WhatsApp and we will build the cab, other hotel nights, and any activities around your Pahalgam stay in one itinerary, rather than booking the hotel in isolation.
