How deep does the snow get?
In a normal winter, the meadow around the village is under a thick, continuous blanket by January, and Kongdoori and Apharwat hold far more. Depth varies a lot between winters, so treat any single figure as a guide only. For skiers, the best indicator is how many fresh snow spells have come through since December.

What snowfall means for your trip
Fresh snow is beautiful but can slow the Tangmarg road and pause the Gondola in wind. Anti-skid chains or a 4×4 are required on the Tangmarg to Gulmarg road whenever the administration’s snow advisory is in force.
