Security checks at the station take time on arrival, so allow 15 to 20 minutes from the platform to the car, more on busy mornings.
The Vande Bharat runs between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar in about 3 hours, through the Chenab and Pir Panjal sections. Since April 2026 some services also run to and from Jammu Tawi. Morning and afternoon services arrive late in the morning and early in the evening, but timings and running days change, so check NTES or IRCTC for your date. If you are staying near Dal Lake, a pre-booked cab is simpler than finding a car at the station after a 3 hour train ride with luggage. If you are heading straight to the mountains, a day cab lets you stop for lunch and a view on the way. Do not rely on one. Srinagar district lists prepaid counters at the airport and main bus stand. Booking a cab before you travel avoids searching for a car after the train.
