Pahalgam, the valley of shepherds, sits where the Lidder river meets pine forests and meadows. It is one of the most scenic stops in Kashmir and a base for several beautiful day trips.

Betaab Valley

Named after a Bollywood film, Betaab Valley is a lush green meadow ringed by snow peaks with the Lidder river running through it. It is a short drive from Pahalgam town and a favourite for photos and picnics.

Aru Valley

Aru is a quiet meadow village about 12 km from Pahalgam, popular with trekkers and those who want calm mountain scenery. It is also the starting point for treks to Kolahoi Glacier and the Kashmir Great Lakes.

Chandanwari

Chandanwari, around 16 km from Pahalgam, is the traditional starting point of the Amarnath Yatra and holds snow bridges even into early summer. The drive along the Lidder is beautiful.

Things to do in Pahalgam

Enjoy river rafting on the Lidder, take a pony ride to Baisaran, often called mini Switzerland, walk the pine trails, and visit the Pahalgam golf course. The town itself is relaxed and good for a slow day.
