St Mary Church sits quietly at the edge of Gulmarg's open meadow, a compact wooden chapel that dates back to the British era. Built in the traditional Kashmiri style with a steep sloping roof made for heavy snow, it carries the calm of another century. You will find it a short, easy walk from the main market and gondola stand, its grey stone base and timber frame framed by pine and, in winter, by deep snow. It is a lovely, unhurried stop to pair with your Gulmarg day, especially for photographs and a moment of stillness.

Things to do

Best time to visit: Open through the year. April to June and September to October give you clear meadow-and-mountain surroundings for photos, while December to February wraps the church in snow for a classic winter frame. Mornings are usually calmest and least crowded.

How to reach: The church is in the heart of Gulmarg, a short walk from the main market and gondola area. Gulmarg is roughly a 50 to 55 km drive from Srinagar, taking about 2 to 2.5 hours by road via Tangmarg. Local taxis and shared cabs run from Srinagar and Tangmarg.
