Sinthan Top is a dramatic high mountain pass that links the Kashmir Valley with the Kishtwar region beyond. Perched at a lofty altitude, it stays wrapped in snow for a large part of the year, and even in summer you often find gleaming white patches lining the roadside. The drive up rewards you with sweeping views of layered ridges, deep valleys and open alpine slopes. It is a thrilling day trip for those chasing crisp air, snow underfoot and panoramic scenery, and a memorable stop on the longer route towards Kishtwar and the Warwan side of the mountains.

Things to do

Best time to visit: The pass is best visited in summer, roughly June through September, when the road is clear enough to drive and you can still find snow at the top. For much of the rest of the year heavy snowfall closes the route entirely, so avoid the winter and early spring months.

How to reach: Sinthan Top lies beyond Anantnag and the Daksum area. From Srinagar it is a long drive of around four to five hours, first to Anantnag and then up through Daksum towards the pass. A sturdy vehicle and an early start are advised, and it is usually done as a full-day outing by private cab.
