Khilanmarg is the quiet, high meadow that sits just above Gulmarg and rewards a short effort with an outsized view. From near the Gondola phase one area you climb by foot or on pony through pine and fir to a broad grassy shelf that in summer is carpeted with wildflowers and in winter turns into a gentle snow slope. From here you look out across the Kashmir Valley and up towards the Apharwat ridge, a panorama that feels far more remote than the easy walk suggests. If you want Gulmarg's mountain beauty with fewer crowds, Khilanmarg is your reward.

Things to do

Best time to visit: Late spring to early autumn, roughly May to September, is ideal for green meadows, wildflowers and clear mountain views. In winter the meadow is under snow and best suited to snow play and easy slopes. Aim for a clear morning, as the valley views are at their finest before clouds build over the peaks.

How to reach: Khilanmarg is reached from Gulmarg, about a short uphill trek or pony ride of a few kilometres from near the Gondola phase one area. First drive from Srinagar to Gulmarg, roughly 50 km and about two hours, then continue up to Khilanmarg on foot or by pony. Happy Jacks can arrange your Gulmarg transfer and local pony or guide.
